The move aims to enhance the safety and well-being of delivery riders across the country.

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced on Tuesday the launch of 356 fully-equipped rest stations for delivery drivers across the country.

Ensuring riders’ wellbeing

The move aligns with the implementation of the mid-day break policy, which prohibits individuals working under the scorching sun from operating between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM, during peak summer temperatures.

In an official statement on Instagram, the ministry highlighted the significance of this initiative in creating a secure working environment and protecting riders against heat-related risks during the summer season.

The new rest areas are the fruition of the ongoing collaboration between the UAE government and private-sector delivery companies, to ensure the safety and well-being of delivery riders across the country.

Private sector initiatives

The initiative comes weeks after the UAE-headquartered delivery platform, talabat rolled out the region’s first solar-powered rest stations and deployed air-conditioned mobile buses for delivery riders in Abu Dhabi, as part of the ‘Summer Together’ initiative.

The smart boxes operate 24/7 and provide noise-free, comfortable seating areas, fully air-conditioned for respite from the heat. Moreover, they provide access to drinking water and mobile recharge stations, allowing riders to rejuvenate and recharge their devices while taking a break.
